What is Book Club?
Goal
The goal of the Ridgeview High School Book Club is to encourage reading by providing a safe environment where literary discussion can take place in a respectful manner.
Structure
Club members are responsible for reading one book each month. All books are previewed and selected by Mrs. Miller, the Library Media Specialist. Although student input is encouraged, Mrs. Miller has final say on book selections. During the meetings, Mrs. Miller provides initial questions and directs and guides the discussion as needed. It is expected, however, that discussions are primarily student led.
Membership
Membership in Book Club is open to all Ridgeview High School students, staff, and faculty. New members can join through November by contacting Mrs. Miller. Dues: $5/semester.
Participation
Based on attendance at each session, participants may be divided into small groups for a starting discussion. When this occurs, time is allotted at the end of each meeting for members to reconvene as a whole and share final thoughts. At other times, the group will meet as a whole for the entire meeting.
Participation is encouraged, but not required, during the monthly discussions. Members must agree to abide by the Book Club Manners to ensure courteous discourse. Each member is encouraged to volunteer to bring a snack to share at one of the monthly meetings.
Meetings
Book Club meets after school usually on the first Friday of each month. The sessions usually last from 1:45pm to approximately 3:00pm. The Library is closed during this time.
General Meeting Format

Book Selection Info
All students who participate in Book Club are asked to sign the following "Confirmation of Understanding" before participating:
"I understand that the Book Club is an after-school voluntary activity. I understand that the books chosen for discussion will be works of literary merit that are written for high school-age young adults and therefore may contain some mature language or content. I understand that I am under no obligation to read any of the books that the group reads, and I may ask Mrs. Miller for a suggestion of a different book if I am uncomfortable for any reason with the book choice for the month."
